As Colin Horgan writes in today, so-called enhanced airport security is nothing more than a Maginot Line defense, to make US feel safer, while leaving the door as open as ever to would-be terrorists. The government and media fixation on the airport security issue in the wake to the recent “testicle terrorist” is just a wall of puffery, and the truth is that our open society is just as open as ever to those who would take advantage of that. Not that we should be panic-stricken, but just respected as thinking human beings by leaders who know there is little they are likely to get done, except in small increments, to enhance their inefficiency.
